Trail braking means carrying some brake pressure into the corner while you start turning, then gradually releasing it.

Why it works

Brake pressure keeps weight on the front tyres, which gives them more grip for turning. Releasing gradually lets you balance the car and rotate it towards the apex.

How to practise

  1. Start with your normal braking point.
  2. Instead of releasing the brake fully before turning, release the last 20% as you turn in.
  3. Compare minimum corner speed in your data.
  4. Gradually extend the overlap.

Do it in a controlled test, not on lap one of a race.
