Sim Racing to Real Racing: What Actually Transfers
Some sim skills transfer brilliantly, others don't transfer at all. Here's what to expect in your first real laps.

Sim racers are often surprisingly quick in real cars and karts within a few sessions. Here's what transfers and what doesn't.
What transfers well
- Racing lines and track knowledge: you'll know where you're going.
- Racecraft: positioning, overtaking setups, defending.
- Data literacy: reading speed traces and comparing laps.
What doesn't transfer
- G-forces and physical load: your neck will tell you.
- Fear and self-preservation: you'll brake earlier than you need to at first.
- Tyre temperature feel: cold tyres in the real world are far less forgiving.
How to bridge the gap
Plan your first real test days in phases: learn the track, build consistency, then push. Use the sim between real sessions to rehearse what you learned. Our Sim Racer → Real Racer course covers the full process.
